US Senator Don Nickles was in Tulsa Tuesday. Nickles spoke to the press at a luncheon at the Doubletree Hotel.

July will be a busy month for Nickles. He'll divide his time working as the Senate budget chairman, working on Medicare and energy bills and dealing with the ongoing Tar Creek environmental problems here in Oklahoma.

Senator Nickles is scheduled to tour Tar Creek again Wednesday. "I'm not satisfied with what's happened over the last several years and it seems to me like we're spending alot of money and we're not getting anywhere. But maybe that's incorrect, so maybe I'll have a better feeling for it."

Senator Nickles says he's open to options when it comes to Tar Creek. He says his first concern is the welfare of the children who live in the areas affected by mining waste.
