Effective Tuesday, there will be new protections for Oklahoma homebuyers. Lawmakers have passed a law requiring home inspectors to be licensed and inspections to be standardized.

Up to now, there were no mandated minimum standards. Now there are dozens of areas and individual items that must be included. Charles Cravens is a veteran home inspector. He says reputable inspectors are glad there are finally standards. "It's gonna be good for buyers, good for us, it's gonna be good for Tulsa. It brings us up with the rest of the nation."

Cravens says licensed inspectors will have state ID cards. He recommends asking for references, and if there are other questions check with the Better Business Bureau.
