The US Department of Justice has closed its investigation into the Tulsa County jail. The investigation stems from a settlement agreement signed by Tulsa County officials in 1996.

Back then, Department of Justice officials noted the Tulsa County jail was plagued with a series of problems, from health code violations to severe inmate overcrowding. The 1999 construction of the new David L Moss Criminal Justice Center alleviated many of those problems.

Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz, "I think we have a much safer jail then we had in those early days. Hopefully we won't ever get into the situation we were in. We were extremely overcrowded, got us in trouble, a real struggle. We've come up on top of it."

Officials say annual inspections of the David L Moss center, adherence to policies and procedures and specific compliance with terms of the settlement ended the investigation.
