PHILADELPHIA -- In the quest to build a better lie detector, researchers are looking into the brain. One has built a headband outfitted with lights and detectors able to "see" blood-flow changes. Another uses magnetic resonance imaging to snap split-second pictures.

The focus is on the forebrain, and though the research is preliminary, ethicists worry about the implications of an eventual portable truth sensor.
