STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ John Smith of Oklahoma State has been named coach of the year by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Smith led the Cowboys to a 17-0 dual record, and they went on to win the Big 12 and national championships.

``The Cowboys' success this season has been a direct result of the commitment and dedication that coach Smith brings to his profession,'' said Jack Maughan, NWCA president.

Smith received the same award in 1994 when the Cowboys won the NCAA title.

He will be honored at the NWCA convention in New York City on Sept. 11.
