State senator hopes bill will educate Oklahomans about Hepatitis C

(Oklahoma City-AP) -- State Senator Angela Monson hopes a bill signed into law by Governor Brad Henry will educate Oklahomans about a serious health risk they know little about -- Hepatitis C.

Monson says former US Surgeon General Doctor C- Everett Koop has called Hepatitis C a worse threat to public health in America than HIV.

But Monson says millions of Americans know nothing about the disease.

The bill creates a task force to find ways to educate the public about Hepatitis C, the tenth leading cause of death among adults in the United States.
