OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The Oklahoma Energy Resources Board is doing its part to help the state's cash-strapped schools and is challenging other businesses to do the same.
The agency on Wednesday presented a $1 million gift to public school districts.
``This generous gift will help ensure that more students have opportunities in their schools for hands-on science activities and experiments that might not otherwise be provided during these lean budget times,'' state schools Superintendent Sandy Garrett said.
The districts will have to fill out grant applications before the money is disbursed, Garrett said.
The OERB will launch the ``Power Campaign,'' a fund-raising effort from late August until Thanksgiving to raise $5 million more money for schools from private contributors.
First lady Kim Henry will be the campaign's honorary chairwoman.
