(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A state Senate subcommittee is recommending an increase in car tag fees.
The subcommittee says a $4.50 increase would raise $15-million and prevent deep cuts by the Public Safety Department.
Public Safety Commission Bob Ricks says a 5% budget cut would mean reductions in service and 23-day furloughs for department employees, including Highway Patrol Troopers. Ricks says a ten percent budget cut would lead to layoffs of 244 employees, including 152 troopers.
