OU basketball coach Kelvin Sampson mentioned as candidate for North Carolina job

(Tulsa-AP) -- Oklahoma basketball coach Kelvin Sampson is among the coaches mentioned as a possible candidate for the North Carolina job.

ESPN mentioned Sampson as one of seven coaches as possible candidates to replace Tar Heel coach Matt Doherty, who resigned Tuesday.

The other coaches mentioned include current Illinois and former Tulsa coach Bill Self and Kansas coach Roy Williams.

Sampson is traveling to New Orleans to attend the Final Four. He and his wife, Karen, are natives of North Carolina and his parents live in the state.
