SAND SPRINGS, Okla. (AP) _ A local foundation has launched a campaign to raise $600,000 for the school district.
Operation Gold Pride, kicked off by the Sand Springs Education Foundation, is already off to a good start after one couple donated $100,000 and a children's home pledged $250,000.
The Sand Springs Home will donate $250,000 if the foundation can raise an additional $250,000 from the rest of the community by the end of the calendar year.
The money will go directly to the district's general fund, which has lost more than $2 million in state aid in the past 18 months.
The foundation plans to mail letters to about 15,000 Charles Page High School alumni and will seek corporate and community donations.
