(McAlester-AP) -- The state has executed a man who was convicted of stabbing his girlfriend and her mother to death in 1988.

John Michael Hooker was pronounced dead Tuesday night at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.

The US Supreme Court denied Hooker's appeal and stay for an emergency execution without comment.

Hooker was executed for the death of his girlfriend Sylvia Stokes and her mother Drusilla Morgan.

The mother and daughter had been stabbed so many times that they bled to death internally until they died.

Stokes, the mother of Hooker's three young children, had moved out of the Oklahoma City apartment she shared with Hooker a week before the murders.

She had told her sister she feared Hooker would hurt her and the children.
