(Ardmore-AP) - Carter County Sheriff Harvey Burkhart says he's fired two deputies who are under investigation by the FBI.

Burkhart says he fired Jerren Almon and Kelby Hughes for "the good of the department."

Burkhart says he suspended Almon and Hughes last week and asked the F-B-I to investigate after receiving allegations of misconduct against the two. He says information uncovered during the investigation led to the decision to fire the deputies.

The sheriff says he will reveal no further details until the investigation is complete.
