Hundreds of our local men and women have answered the call to duty, which means they leave behind families and countless responsibilities. It can be stressful for those left to cope.

One Owasso church is showing "real" support for some military personnel and their families. News on 6 reporter Patrina Adger says Owasso's First Baptist Church has several dozen members who've been called to active duty.

Sunday, the church came together to pray for them. Church members sang patriotic songs and prayed for the men and women called to serve our country. They're mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters. Their names and pictures are displayed at the church's Wall of Honor.

Members say it's a way for the church to pay tribute and remember those serving and to pray for them continuously until their safe return home. Church member, Michelle Maxwell, "We're holding a service to say, we support them, we honor them, we appreciate them and just the sacrifices they're giving for our freedom."

Another church member, Kacy Harsha, "As a family member of a deployed military person. It's nice to think that people are even thinking about us and worrying about us and here to help us and pray for us.”

Church members have also volunteered their services to help the families of those deployed by offering to help them with things like mowing the lawn, oil changes, and babysitting while their loved ones are away.
