(Little Rock, Arkansas-AP) -- Arkansas-based Dillard's department stores Tuesday announced the election of former Oklahoma congressman JC Watts to its board.
Watts was the only black Republican in Congress when he retired in January after serving in the House for eight years.
Dillard's has been accused of racial discrimination in its stores. The company has lost a customer lawsuit and settled discrimination complaints with employees.
Dillard's chairman and chief executive William Dillard the Second says Watts understands the people who shop at Dillard's and will help the company enhance its brand.
Watts is chairman of JC Watts Companies, which provides public opinion research, diversity consulting and other services. It also provides crisis communication management.
