(Seattle-AP) -- Former Oklahoma Congressman Steve Largent has interviewed for the general manager's job with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.

Largent told a Seattle radio station Thursday night that he spent several hours with Seahawks president Bob Whitsitt.

Largent played college football at Tulsa, then went on to a Hall-of-Fame career with Seattle.

The team has interviewed several candidates since coach Mike Holmgren gave up the GM title a month ago. Whitsitt says the team hopes to name a general manager within 30 days -- before the NFL draft.

Largent says he's very fond of the Seahawks organization and would like the team to become a contender every season.

Largent played for the Seahawks from 1976 to '89, setting NFL records for most career receptions, most yards, most touchdowns and consecutive games with a catch. He was named to the Hall of Fame in 1995.

After his football career he was elected to Congress from Oklahoma in 1994.

His political career hit a bump last November when he lost the governor's race to Brad Henry.
