Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune says there is hope for the arts in Tulsa. He created the Mayor's "Task Force on the Arts" last year to address the economic problems facing the city's arts programs.
The group met Monday at City Hall to give an update on its progress. Mayor LaFortune had good news for Philharmonic season ticket holders, who recently learned they would not get refunds for shows cancelled because of budget problems. "There has been an agreement reached between the ballet and the Philharmonic to allow the season ticket holders to go to some of the ballets. So it's not in any way a "free ride" to the ballet, but it is recognizing that they have invested their dollars into the arts."
Mayor LaFortune says the city will move ahead to revamp the Philharmonic in 30 to 60 days.
