(Tulsa) -- State Superintendent Sandy Garrett wants Oklahoma Indian tribes to help foot the bill for education.

Garrett wants state leaders to talk with tribes about sharing some of their gaming revenue to help cash-strapped schools.

She's also proposing that the state should consider giving tribes use of some state lodges in exchange for a cut of gaming revenue.

Garrett spoke at the Tulsa Press Club Friday.

Tribes aren't the only places Garrett suggests Oklahoma turn for education funding. A task force she's created plans to release a report next week that offers ideas about diversifying education funding sources.

Garrett herself is a member of an Oklahoma tribe. She's a registered Cherokee.
