The Tulsa School Board has trouble deciding whether to close school for a teacher's rally at the state capitol. But the controversy is not over.

Teachers want to close school doors February 12th for the education rally. But some say teachers can show support for education by staying in school. There's enough controversy over the issue that the school board decided it needs more time to try and come up with a compromise.

Hale High School teacher Teresa Norvell, "If they think that 1,300 of us that have already filled out our forms for our personal day are gonna back down they're wrong."

Superintendent David Sawyer has suggested organizing a delegation of five teachers from each school in the district. But the teachers association says five teachers per school is not enough. The board put off a decision on what to do for another week.

Several school districts will be closed for the February 12th rally. Broken Arrow, Glenpool, Sapulpa, Sand Springs, and Claremore will shut down.

In addition, Jenks students won't have school that day either. Teachers there say they'll participate in professional development activities on the bus ride to the capitol.
