Oklahoma City-AP) -- Oklahoma businesses are getting some more time to turn over unclaimed property to the state treasurer.
More than $4.6-million in unclaimed property has been turned over since Treasurer Robert Butkin started the amnesty program in March 2001.
Butkin says about 500 businesses have taken advantage of the program. Now it's being extended to June 30th.
State law requires businesses to report and send unclaimed property to the state treasurer until the owners can be found.
Unclaimed property includes money and other valuables held by banks, utilities or other companies.
Butkin says penalties and interest for not complying with the law can be substantial.
