NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ A single-engine airplane crashed Tuesday near Lake Thunderbird, killing the one person aboard, authorities said.
The 61-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Norman Regional Hospital, where he died at 1:55 p.m., said hospital spokesman Grant Farrimond. His name and hometown were not immediately released.
The plane crashed southeast of Norman near Oklahoma 9 about 12:30 p.m., the Cleveland County Sheriff's office said.
A witness to the crash said the plane fell from the sky without warning.
``He was going real low, about treetop level,'' said Jimmie Loudermilk.
``He circled like he was going back to the airstrip and all of a sudden he just went straight down.''
