A standoff in east Tulsa forced police to shut down I 244 for a while Tuesday night.

It started when a man, wanted on outstanding warrants, tried to get away from an officer. Kevin Hilburn was wanted on drug charges and strong-armed robbery. Police say Hilburn pulled into a parking lot at 129th East Avenue, but wouldn't get out of his car.

They say Hilburn had been known to carry a weapon, so they closed the highway for safety reasons. About 20 minutes later, he gave up and was taken into custody.

Charges are pending.
