(Bartlesville-AP) -- Economic development officials in Bartlesville say a proposal to raise the sales tax will no longer be needed.

The quarter-cent sales tax increase to be voted on February eleventh was to be used to help Schlumberger Corporation build a new plant in Bartlesville.

Bartlesville Development Corporation Chairman Glenn Bonner says Schlumberger has decided instead to refurbish its existing facility.

Bonner says the city council will be asked to remove the sales tax proposal from the ballot. Voters will still go to the polls that day to decide school millage items.
