TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Williams Cos. has filed to sell as much as $3 billion in securities that the company said could be used for repayment of debts and other corporate purposes.

The filing Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission allows the Tulsa-based energy company to register the securities in advance and then sell them when market conditions are favorable or when financing needs arise.

The filing includes $2.7 billion in either debt, preferred or common stock, rights and contracts and another $300 million in previously registered securities that remain unsold.
