WASHINGTON (AP) _ Evenflo Company Inc. is recalling 28,312 Triumph car seats because they may not secure the child in an accident.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said links on the internal harness system manufactured by an Evenflo supplier may be defective. Evenflo will give owners a free upgrade kit and repair instructions.
NHTSA Administrator Jeffrey Runge said parents should continue to use the seat while waiting to receive the kit because it provides better protection than an adult seat belt or no restraint.
The recall involves all Triumph car seats manufactured between October 20, 2001 and January 31, 2002. The car seats say ``Trimuph'' on the front and have model numbers beginning with 264. The model number and date of manufacture appear on a white label on the lower, backside of the seat.
Owners should call Evenflo at 800-425-1967 or register online at www.truimphcarseat.com to receive a free kit.
