(ALTUS) - Officials at Altus Air Force Base are investigating an accident that killed an airman.

Staff Sgt. Corbett Anderson, 27, died Monday night after he was accidentally pinned under the wheel of a U-30 aircraft tow vehicle when one of its wheels shifted, base officials said.

The tire pinned Anderson in the wheel well where base firefighters found him. He was taken to an Altus hospital and later transferred to a Lawton hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Anderson, a Kansas native, joined the Air Force 6 1/2 years ago. He arrived in August in Altus after serving in Korea and New Mexico.

A memorial service was scheduled for Wednesday.
