SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) _ The state auditor's office has completed its monthlong investigation of the Sequoyah County Court Clerk's office, officials said.

State auditor's office would not comment Monday on the investigation, but Court Clerk Bernell Edwards said $5,000 to $7,000 was taken between September and January.

The evidence so far linked the missing money to one employee, who resigned in January, Edwards said.

Dana Webb, Tulsa manager for the state auditor's office, said the probe should produce a preliminary report by early April. Webb said auditors then will meet with Sequoyah County prosecutors to determine whether charges would be filed.

Edwards said a clerk took cash payments from customers, then wrote out a money order so the accounts would match up that day.

The cash apparently was never turned over to the court clerk's accounts.
