An accident on a Tulsa expressway kills two people, and shuts down a highway for hours.
The accident happened on the Broken Arrow Expressway near Garnett Monday night. The accident involved a car, and a semi. The victims were both in the car. Officials aren't sure if weather played a role. Temperatures were in the 40's, but the highway still had some snow on it, and was wet.
Tulsa Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Harry Baker, "Apparently they lost control, spun around and were sideways on the Broken Arrow Expressway and the tractor trailer rig carrying refrigerated liquid oxygen uh hit it broadside." The truck pushed the car into the median and ended up on top of it.
Both east and westbound lanes had to be blocked off so crews could take care of the victims and clean up the debris. Traffic was backed up for miles. The truck driver wasn't hurt.
Officers say 29-year-old Stephen Thibodeaux of Muskogee and 32 year old Martha Almond of Arkansas were killed in the accident.
