Oklahoma's newest Representative got a warm welcome at his first day on the job.
John Sullivan was sworn in this morning on Capitol Hill.
During a speech to his fellow congreemen, Sullivan vowed to fight for members of the 1st District, which includes Tulsa.
And in a broken voice, he thanked someone very special who helped get him elected.
Rep John Sullivan, (R) Oklahoma:"I'd like to give thanks to my father, who got me started in politics, and I know he's looking down on me, and he's uh, happy that his son got elected to the Congress. And.. uh, thank you very much... (applause)"
Congressman Sullivan replaced Steve Largent for the reminder of his term which ends in November.
Sullivan has expressed an interest in taking Largent's place on the Energy and Commerce Committee, but acknowledged that it is uncommon for a "Freshman" to attain that position. House Speaker Dennis Hastert will make that decision.
