Years of planning and months of hardwork has finally paid off. Mayes County's Free Clinic is now open.

The News on 6's Patrina Adger was at the ribbon-cutting this afternoon and witnessed the opening of the facility in Pryor. People in Mays County are absolutely thrilled about the clinic, not just because it's open after so many years of planning and so many months of hard work to restructure the building, but because of the people it took to make it all happen. It was truly a community effort! The bitter cold didn't stop more than 100 residents from checking out the newly remodeled facility.

The building was old duplex - but instead of tearing it down, the previous owner decided to lease the building to the Free Clinic for only a dollar per year.

And with a few coats of paint as well as donated plumbing and lighting from local businesses, the building is as good as new, thanks in large part to more than 80 volunteers gave their time and money to make this dream a reality.

Office Clerks are already making appointments. The 1600 square foot clinic, equipped with a waiting room, 2 exam rooms and a pharmacy will offer free medical diagnosis and treatment to those between the ages of 18 - 65 who need medical care. The typical patient will have an income on the average below 18 thousand per year, no insurance, or receive no benefits. The all in one facility will mean that patients won't have to travel far to get treatment and pharmaceuticals, the goal being a better quality of life for many individuals.
