Strong winds created a kind of steeplechase, when it buckled. The News on Six was the only station there as crews tried to keep it from falling to the ground on Monday.
Bystanders and even firefighters could do very little but watch the 20-foot steeple dangle at the Bethel Baptist Church in Owasso. Church officials blocked off the area to be sure no one would get hurt in case it did fall. It was worth a closer look to Mike Roark who says it's hanging by a thread, so to speak. “It is being held a 1/2 inch steel cable. So it's no danger of coming down immediately. But it does have to come down to be repaired.â€
Crews will try Tuesday to right the steeple.
