OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ License renewals are now just a mouse click away for Oklahoma's nurses.
On Monday, the Oklahoma Board of Nursing became the first state agency to offer license renewal on the Internet. It's considered a convenience to the state's 47,500 registered nurses and licensed practical nurses.
``We've had numerous requests for this online service, particularly from nurses who live and work well outside of the Oklahoma City metro area. So we made creating this service a priority,'' said Kim Glazier, the nursing board's executive director.
``The goal of the online renewal service is to save Oklahoma's nurses time by speeding up what is currently a paper-intensive process,'' Glazier said.
All nurses must renew their licenses every two years. Glazier said the nursing board's office receives more than 400 calls daily from health care facilities and services needing to check a nurse's license status.
``Online license verification is not only a huge benefit to employers, but also to the general public, who can be assured the nurse providing care is fully licensed,'' she said.
A credit card is required for the $60 fee. Mail-in renewals will continue to be accepted.
