TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Antonio Reed made six 3-pointers and scored 20 points, all in the second half, to lead Tulsa to an 87-69 victory over Southern Methodist on Thursday night.
The victory pulled the Golden Hurricane (21-4, 12-2 Western Athletic Conference) within a half-game of Hawaii in the league standings.
SMU (12-11, 7-6) played without Damon Hancock, the WAC's second-leading scorer at 21.2 points per game, who returned to the team's hotel prior to the game with flu-like symptoms.
Kevin Johnson had 12 of his 16 points in the first half as Tulsa opened up a 46-29 lead. Behind Quinton Ross, who led all scorers with 24 points, SMU rallied several times in the second half, coming as close as 76-64 with 3:42 to play.
But Reed snuffed out the rally with his final two 3-pointers, giving Tulsa an 82-66 lead with 1:32 left. He finished 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. Tulsa shot 50 percent (11-of-22) from 3-point range and 47.6 percent overall.
Dante Swanson scored 11 points and Greg Harrington had nine points and eight assists for the Hurricane.
Kris Lowe had 14 points and Justin Isham 12 for SMU.
