NEW YORK (AP) _ A hit-and-run driver struck at least seven people at a busy intersection near Penn Station on Thursday, leaving four of them in critical condition.

Police were still searching for the driver, who was last seen fleeing into a subway. Police believed the vehicle had been taken in a carjacking reported in New Jersey earlier Thursday.

The car went over a curb Thursday morning, struck three people, turned around and hit four more people, said Police Detective Thomas Lawrence. Police said the driver then parked the car and fled.

Four of the people hit, ranging in age from 49 to 78, were hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

The incident occurred just two days after a New Jersey man allegedly hit 19 people in Manhattan before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing. Police said they believed that man was a 39-year-old suspected in the attempted murder of a New Jersey woman over the weekend. Police had not found him as of Thursday.
