Delaware County's new jail dedicated Saturday

(Jay-AP) -- Delaware County residents dedicated a new courthouse and jail Saturday. <br><br>Taxpayers in the county approved a half-cent sales tax in 1997 to pay for the four (m) million dollar project.

(Jay-AP) -- Delaware County residents dedicated a new courthouse and jail Saturday.

Taxpayers in the county approved a half-cent sales tax in 1997 to pay for the four (m) million dollar project.

The new jail houses 60 inmates, up from 38 inmates in the old jail.

The county's remodeled courthouse houses the county treasurer, county clerk, assessor's office, mechanical rooms and storage space.

The new courthouse opened in January 2001. It houses two courtrooms, judges chambers, court clerks and county commissioner offices, commissioner meeting room, jail and sheriff's offices.
