WASHINGTON (AP) _ The maker of Dark Chocolate Bug Bites is recalling the candy because the label does not warn buyers that the product may contain traces of milk products.
Some people are sensitive to milk and could suffer allergic reactions, but no illnesses have been associated with the product.
Dark Chocolate Bug Bites are sold nationally in stores and by mail. They are made by Endangered Species Chocolate Co., in Talent, Ore.
The candies are sold in a purple box that is labeled with the warning that the product contains no dairy but is processed on equipment that may contain traces of dairy. That warning is not repeated on the individual candy labels, however.
Jon Stocking of the candy company said the decision was made to issue the recall after questions were raised about the lack of the warning on individual candies.
Consumers can return the product to the company for a refund. Those with questions can call the company at 1-800-293-0160.
