More than a year ago, 19-year-old Bonnie Grubbs and her boyfriend stole a car with two young children inside. And then they ditched it on the side of the road. Fortunately, the two kids survived.
Grubbs was sentenced to ten years in prison for car theft and child endangerment. But Tuesday, a judge released her after serving just one year of her sentence. Wednesday, Grubbs' attorney says she's a changed woman. She herself had a child while she was in prison.
Darrell Bolton says it's given Grubbs a new perspective on life. And he says she's not getting off scott-free, her probation will be strict. “The judge has her under his microscope for nine years, she could go eight-and-a-half of those and mess up and she'd go in for ten straight years. There is quite a hammer over this young lady's head."
Grubbs will also spend time at a halfway house.
