TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Kevin Johnson scored 19 points and Tulsa's fast-paced style wore down Boise State as the Golden Hurricane beat the Broncos 80-60 in a Western Athletic Conference game on Saturday.
Greg Harrington added 17 points and six assists, the last of which set a new Tulsa career assist record of 458. Dante Swanson had 14 points and five rebounds for Tulsa (12-3, 3-1 WAC).
Boise State (8-8, 2-4 WAC) came into the game with the nation's 17th-ranked defense, allowing just 60.4 points per game. But Tulsa held the Broncos to 32 percent shooting in the first half and led by as much as 30-17 before settling for a 31-22 margin at the half.
Boise State stayed in it by forcing Tulsa into nine turnovers and 33 percent shooting in the first half, but the lead began to widen early in the second half when the Broncos abandoned their efforts to control the ball.
Bryan Defares led Boise State with 14 points, followed by Booker Nabors with 13 and Abe Jackson with 11.
Boise State was outrebounded 38-22 and shot 42 percent to 52 for Tulsa, including 73 percent in the second half (16-of-22).
