MCALESTER, Okla. (AP) _ About 70 families in the Castaway Cove area who found themselves without water shortly after Christmas can now get water and showers at a community bathhouse.
Castaway Cove is a property in northern Pittsburg County that has been subdivided into 40- by 70-foot lots. The lots were sold to people for use as private campgrounds. Some people have purchased several lots and established permanent residences.
Longtown Rural Water District No. 1 turned off the water on Dec. 26 for lack of payment.
Water was restored to the property's bathhouse recently after a payment was received.
Mike Jones, the owner of Castaway Cove, said the problems with payment of the bill arose because an undetected leak had tripled the water charge.
Pittsburg County officials arranged for tankers of water to be brought in while the water was shut off.
