While most schools are back from the holiday break, Tulsa Public Schools were still out on Monday. That gave security guards a chance to brush up on their skills.
The district holds two sessions each year to update the security workers on policies and procedures. But they stress that what makes them successful at keeping schools safe is teamwork. Tulsa School security expert, Bob Currington, “You have to develop the eyes and ears of the whole school body, students, staff, everybody. It can't be just one person's job. It can't be that security guard's job that's standing there at the school, that they're the only one responsible for the safety of the school. It's everybody's responsibility.â€
Tulsa Public Schools has 64 security guards. They are stationed throughout all of the district's high schools and middle schools.
