WASHINGTON (AP) _ A Tennessee company is recalling about 600 portable generators because gas can leak from a small hole in the fuel tank and start fires.
DeVilbiss Air Power Co., of Jackson, has received 10 reports of leaking tanks, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Friday. No injuries have been reported.
The Porter-Cable gasoline-powered generators have the model number BSI550-W printed on the fuel tank between the handles. The date code ''09-10-01'' is printed on a label on the tank support rail. Generators with other dates are not being recalled.
The generators are red with the brand ``Porter-Cable'' printed on the black fuel tank.
Major home centers sold these generators from September 2001 through October 2001 for approximately $600.
The safety commission said consumers should stop using these generators and contact the company toll-free at 1-866-422-4282 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. CST Monday through Friday to arrange for a free replacement tank.
