TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Brandon Dean scored 12 points _ including three 3-pointers _ in the final eight minutes of the game as Arkansas beat Tulsa 79-75 Wednesday.

Dean finished with 18 points. His 3-pointer with 2:58 to play gave Arkansas (3-1) a 73-65 lead. Tulsa (2-1) closed to within 77-75 with eight seconds left.

Larry Satchell, a 20 percent free-throw shooter, then made two free throws to seal the victory for Arkansas.

The Razorbacks held Tulsa's perimeter-oriented team to 37 percent shooting, including 19 percent on 3-pointers. TU averaged 40 percent from the 3-point line coming in.

Dante Swanson, Tulsa's leading scorer, was held to 11 points. Antonio Reed scored 18 and Kevin Johnson added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Hurricane.

Dionisio Gomez also had a career-high 18 points and Jannero Pargo added 13 for Arkansas.

Tulsa opened up a 21-12 lead in the first nine minutes, but the Razorbacks answered with a 10-0 run to go up 22-21. The score was knotted at 38 at halftime.

In the second half, neither team could pull away until Dean hit a 3-pointer with 5:40 left to play that gave Arkansas the lead for good at 64-63.

Arkansas coach Nolan Richardson received a warm reception from the crowd. Richardson is credited with bringing the Tulsa program to national prominence.

He coached at Tulsa from 1980-85, compiling a record of 119-37.
