NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Fans of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State were equally shocked about the outcome of Saturday's bedlam game, but for different reasons.
The Cowboys, 27-point underdogs, upset the No. 4 Sooners 16-13, dashing Oklahoma's hopes of another shot at the Big 12 Conference title and, more importantly, the national championship.
``I don't know what to say,'' said Mike Thomas, a Virginia Tech fan who drove 1,232 miles from his home in Lynchburg, Va., just to watch the game. ``It's kind of disheartening. The only sport I believe in now is professional wrestling.''
Norman residents Erica Fox and Mandy Klouse, who attended every Oklahoma game this season, said they never expected the Sooners to lose against their instate rival.
``We're the defending national champions,'' Fox said. ``It really sucks, because we really thought we were going to win the national championship again.''
Oklahoma State fan Duncan Smith, 13, of Muskogee watched the game with his father, Bill. Duncan Smith said he was excited because he didn't witness an OSU loss all season.
``Every game I've gone to, they've won, he said.
Before Saturday, Bill Smith would have said the best thing about the OSU football season was the start of the basketball season. The upset, of course, changed all of that.
``This is unbelievable,'' he said.
Fellow Oklahoma State fan Brad Brainard of Enid went to Norman looking to win something, but not necessarily the football game.
``I was hoping to win the pickup,'' said Brainard, who registered for truck giveaway. ``But we won the game.
``Last year, I would've felt bad to ruin their undefeated season. This year, I think it's great.''
