The holiday traffic situation has a tragic start with a double fatality accident west of Tulsa.
It happened just after 7 AM Wednesday, one mile west of the Keystone dam in the eastbound lane of Highway 412. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says four vehicles were involved, two Ponca City residents were killed. Three others were injured in the accident and remain in a Tulsa hospital.
The OHP says the driver of the westbound auto apparently fell asleep and over corrected, crossing the highway into oncoming traffic, striking an eastbound vehicle head-on.
In light of this accident, OHP trooper Antonio Porter is again stressing travelers to use caution this weekend. "We're just asking, you know, we know there's going to be a lot of traffic out, we asking that people, drive with extra caution take their time, make sure they're using all safety precautions, also wearing seatbelts."
