Big changes are coming to the area where Children's Medical Center now stands. The Tulsa City Council voted Thursday night to rezone the property from office zoning to commercial zoning.
That means the property will be sold to a developer who plans to construct a shopping area. There's been a lot of debate over what to do with the land. Opponents felt rezoning would create a big traffic problem. Supporters, like Randy Jeffers, say they like what the developer has in mind. "I believe he stepped up, and put in some of his money in order to make some improvements that otherwise wouldn't be done. The city has told us they can't afford some of these expenses and this developer has agreed to do them."
David Siebert, who opposed the rezoning, "it's what we expected, it's what we saw in the paper this morning that mister Byrd was going to recommend, we expected it when our councilor came down on what I still think is the wrong side of this issue."
Councilors overwhelmingly approved rezoning, there was just one no vote.
