LAWTON, Okla. (AP) _ An Army Reserve unit based at Fort Sill was called to active duty Monday, the U.S. Department of Defense said.
The 5045th Garrison Support Unit, part of Fort Sill's military police force, joins more than 2,000 Army reservists and Army National Guard members in 15 states called into active duty Monday.
The unit includes 51 people, said Fort Sill spokeswoman Nancy Elliott. She said she did not know the nature of the unit's assignment.
The number of Army Reserve soldiers called to active duty is 3,235, the defense department said.
More than 12,000 Air Force reservists have been called to active duty and about 1,890 Naval reservists have been called, the defense department said.
More than 20,000 members of the Guard and Reserve have been called to active duty.
