MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) _ Interim U.S. Attorney Shelly Sperling was nominated by President Bush Tuesday to take over as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Sperling, 52, of Wagoner was recommended for the job earlier this year by U.S. Sens. Don Nickles and Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma.

``Mr. Sperling has an exemplary record and will do an outstanding job for the people of Oklahoma and the nation,'' Inhofe said.

``I am hopeful the Senate will confirm him soon,'' Nickles said.

Sperling has been interim U.S. Attorney since November. A graduate of the University of Tulsa Law School, Sperling has served as an assistant U.S. Attorney as well as assistant district attorney in Wagoner County. He has also been in private practice.

Sperling and his wife, Marvetta Sue, have two children, Andy and Micah.
