SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts (AP) _ NCAA executive Tom Jernstedt, sportscaster Dick Stockton and sports writer Curry Kirkpatrick will be honored by the U.S. Basketball Hall of Fame.
Jernstedt will receive the John Bunn award, the Hall's top service award. Stockton and Kirkpatrick will receive the Curt Gowdy media awards for excellence in basketball journalism.
The awards will be presented during the Oct. 5 enshrinement for NBA star Moses Malone and college coaches John Chaney and Mike Krzyzewski.
Jernstedt joined the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1972 and now is its senior vice president. He is president of USA Basketball, serves on the board of the U.S. Olympic Committee and is a trustee of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Stockton is in his 34th year as a professional broadcaster. He has been the NBA play-by-play announcer for Turner Sports Inc. since 1995. From 1978 until 1994 he broadcast basketball and other sports for CBS.
Kirkpatrick spent 27 years at the Sports Illustrated magazine, specializing in college basketball. He has been a writer and reporter for ESPN since 1997.
