NEW YORK (AP) _ Two-time champion Andre Agassi charged into the quarterfinals of the U.S. open on Monday, allowing his fourth-round opponent, Roger Federer, just seven games in a three-set sweep.
Agassi, the second seed from the United States, scored a modest six aces and 22 winners, but still beat the 20-year old Swiss 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 in just 1 hour and 23 minutes.
Federer, seeded 13th, had nine break points but didn't convert a single one of them, while Agassi broke the Swiss five times out of six.
Agassi won here in 1994 and '99, but crashed out in the second round last year.
In the quarterfinals, Agassi will take on the winner of Monday's match between Pete Sampras vs. Patrick Rafter.
