The debate over reparations for survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race riots continues. Oklahoma Governor Keating and Tulsa Mayor Susan Savage led a discussion panel on the issue Thursday night.
They were joined by County Commissioner Wilbert Collins, School superintendent David Sawyer and Cherokee Nation Chief Chad Smith. Mayor Savage fielded the question of "cash" reparations from the city of Tulsa. "I really believe in reparations for survivors, cash payments, I stated that at the press conference the governor had, but I don't know what amount and I don't know how we get to that money."
Savage says it's doubtful taxpayers would foot the bill for reparations. She says discussions about a private fundraising effort are already underway.
