A man suspected of murdering two women on the Purdue University campus was arrested after returning to the United States from Canada.
New York state police and US Customs officials arrested Zhan Yin in Amherst, New York, just before 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Purdue spokesman Joseph Bennett says the border patrol allowed Yin back into the country and then ran a routine check on his identity.
Amherst police arrested him a short time later. The 27-year-old Chinese citizen was charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of a a Purdue doctoral student and her sister. Authorities say the sisters, both South Korean citizens, died Thursday night of blunt force trauma and incised wounds. Police say Yin apparently fled the Oklahoma State University campus early Monday after traveling there with his wife to visit a friend.
